Wildfires and Trailer Trash
Trailer Trash Park - Groveland
Saturday August 2 – Day Two
This is the type of thing you never tell your mother about, that you stayed overnight in a tent in a trailer trash park in the middle of a wildfire area that’s known to have wild cougars (we saw one!). Day One of the USA rocks on. We flew into San Francisco, only to find Rob’s fantasy of driving a Mustang shattered by Hertz who had no replaced it with a Chrysler Seebring. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it does it? Mustang - Seebring - Mustang - Seebring. Mmmm...Any way, it’s a cool car (see photo) and running on travel excitement, we started out for Yosemite National Park. Rob did a splendid job of driving on the wrong side of the road and even reverted to the WRONG side of the road at times just to see if I was checking. We drove out through San Francisco, over the San Mateo bridge (the longest bridge in the world) - well the longest one I’ve been on and headed out through the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It’s stunning.
This is the authentic American experience - deciding to visit a place still alight with wildfires, and staying in a Trailer Trash park for the night. Fire fighters had taken all of the accommodation in town and the only place left was Groveland Camping Ground or Trailer Trash ground. Bikies galore, toilets that rivalled Nepal for their cleanliness and a little old tent for us to sleep in. I lay there wondering - mmm...is this really okay? Staying in a wildfire area overnight, hearing sirens, knowing there's still smoke around and lots of firefighters still active. But then I was reminded of what I’ve been taught all my life, I have nothing to be afraid of and can trust Love’s guidance in every moment of my life - so there are great adventures to be had! And something new I’ve learnt about Rob - he just can’t go for over 48 hours without cleaning his teeth - it’s that five meal build up, it’ll get you everytime!
