Everything's BIG in America

Everything’s BIG in America

Yosemite National Park to the Grand Canyon

Sunday  August 3rd 2008

Today at 5:30am Rob went to clean his teeth, I packed my stuff and we were on our way to Yosemite National Park. Everything’s BIG in America - big National Parks, big boulders, big wide open spaces, big breakfasts, big hearts, big smiles, big storms, big highways, big trucks, it’s BIG, BIG, BIG.  It’s inspiring to me - it reminds me of the limitless nature of Love, that there aren’t actually any limits at all!  It feels to me like it’s all happening here - like anything is possible, which it is! I want to live in America! (So goes the musical and it’s what I’ve been thinking today.)  Today, we’ve driven through Yosemite, it is stunning, saw a pair of squirrels playing, drove three hours through deserts where it was 105 degrees Farenheit (the petrol stations have signs up warning about the heat and to not leave your prized poodle or cute kitty in the car incase they melt) and we made our way to the Grand Canyon hoping to catch it for sunset. We’re both getting used to driving on the wrong side of the road.

In the late afternoon we drove across the Mojave Desert and drove right through a rainbow, soon followed by a severe thunderstorm accompanied by hail.  The wind was so strong it was blowing the car so we pulled over along with many other cars and waited for it to pass. The temperature dropped 30 degrees F in 5 minutes!! As always, we were completely looked after and soon were driving again into open skies and amazing desert country. Rainbows have always been particularly meaningful to me - they always seem to appear just when I need to be reassured that everything is going to  be okay.
